The second part of our feature on the best emerging superyacht destinations.

Porto Montenegro, Montenegro

Location One of the only real destination hubs to have emerged in recent years in the Mediterranean, Porto Montenegro is found in the spectacular cruising grounds of Montenegro. “We are set in the beautiful Unesco-protected Boka Bay, which is at the same time Europe’s southernmost deep fjord. It’s truly spectacular and full of small jewels, like the towns of Kotor and Perast, and ideal for cruising and sailing,” says Tony Browne, marina director at Porto Montenegro. “The marina is the perfect home port with 450 berths for yachts and vessels ranging from 12 metres to 250 metres. The goal of the founders was to build the
most comprehensive, state-of-the-art marina and yacht-service infrastructure, develop the premier destination in the region, create an elegant village on the Adriatic coast, and make a positive impact on the country’s development.”
Amenities “We have an amazing village with luxury waterfront homes for rent and sale, the five-star Hotel Regent, our own yacht club, many international dining options and lively bars, and a wide range of sports, leisure and cultural activities. The quality of our services is so high that we recently received a prestigious Superyacht Marina of Distinction Award,” says Browne.

Christophe Harbour, St Kitts

Location Located in St Kitts, the Christophe Harbour development is set in its own peninsula and includes the marina, various private properties and a soon-to-be-completed Park Hyatt resort hotel. “Our mission statement is that we run the marina like we would run a boat, and that speaks to our values as ex-captains ourselves, and business operators on the dock,” says Aeneas Hollins, director of yachting at Christophe Harbour. “When captains see us polishing the pedestals on the dock, they know that we’re serious about what we offer, and they know it’s something they probably haven’t seen at other places. Our values are exactly the same as the boat’s, in that their best interests are our best interests. We are attentive to the yacht, the crew and the guests, in ways which I don’t think I’ve seen in other parts of the world.”
Amenities “We are a destination marina. Ten years ago that was a new idea, it wasn’t catered for by new developments,” says Hollins. “I think captains and owners now realise how much more it offers in terms of guest and crew experience. There are few other marinas in this part of the world that have been built like this, and that is one of our unique differentiators.”
The development’s next phase includes high-end shopping in the marina, and a gym and crew amenities. The marina works with 200 local businesses for supplying and provisioning, and there is both a guest and crew concierge service. The partnership with YU Lounge at St Kitts airport means that guests can be met on the tarmac and whisked through to a private customs and immigration lounge, and then taken directly to the marina.

Marigot Bay Resort & Marina by Capella Hotel Group

Location Marigot Bay in St Lucia is a recognised ‘hurricane hole’, a shelter from the storms, thanks to its location surrounded by mountains and the minimal tidal changes. “Our natural deep harbour with the blend of beauty and history sets our marina apart from many others in the region,” says marina manager Troy Blanchard. “The aim behind our development was to create a unique yachting destination that not only matches the beauty and serenity of the surrounding environment but would also be the best-quality marina in the Caribbean.”
Amenities The marina has capacity for up to 42 yachts, and offers 24-hour security, hull cleaning and polishing, varnishing and sail repairs. “Yacht owners along with their guests and crew are also guests of the resort,” says Blanchard. “This means that there is access to the resort’s facilities, including the swimming pools, fitness centre, and our indoor/outdoor lounge areas. Yacht guests are also free to dine at any of our restaurants and bars, or use our Auriga Spa. There is a unique synergy that exists between the marina and resort.”
